Shaken or stirred?

Here is my selfie on the eve of one of our wine dinners last week in the US. I love visiting America. I learn a lot  from our friends, partners and clients over there. I feel very fortunate indeed. I managed to get an enormous amount done marketing the wines and the Hotel and with my friend, Matt Haley, we made sure there was time to go speak at a school and be a part of the fantastic community work that he does.

So, despite it looking as if I’m trying to be 007, as you know I’m more a wine-man than a Martini-man. And as much as it is kind of cool to smarten myself up, I prefer to be in boots, jeans and a t-shirt, around the estate in Tuscany. I’m the kind of guy who has a short attention span and I tend to move from one thing to the next pretty sharply. The team that works for Sarah and I know that too and have come to expect my interventionist approach. I like to be involved. I want to stay current on the thousand things going on here, from how big the hail stones were in yesterdays storm, to when the new bottles of Grappa will be ready. There are architects and City Hall conversations going on about our plans to grow and accountants telling us if we’ve done a decent job. The Hotel and it’s guests are a welcome tonic after the savage wine world we work in. We have quite a few of our guests hosting their weddings with us and attention to detail is everything for them. We’ve hired a brilliant Hotel Manager, Claudia Giuliani, who is taking our hospitality offering here to the next level. We couldn’t be more pleased.

Anyway the long and short of it is that I am back and the Summer is on. We have the best team we have ever had, Elisa as Chef, Ilario, Director of Wine and Claudia running the Hotel business. And well, I’m knee deep in what I love-Tuscany.

Our Prosecco is back!

photo 2
Our Prosecco is back! After a couple of months without our favourite frizzante, we are excited to be able to release the new 2013 vintage. If you love bubbles from Italy this is the bottle of choice for you. Pale, golden bubbles, filled with light and literally sparkling for all types of occasions. We think this gorgeous, slender, black bottle of fizz is one of the most versatile drinks we produce. We drink it on a cold winters night after work, to celebrate with the ones we love or on a sunny day with friends. As you pour your first, icy glass aromas of apple, fresh white fruit and notes of yeast escape from the glass. What more do you need to know? We’ll have cases to ship mid-month, so get your order in now! Email us at or Buy a case of Prosecco here.

Perfect Day

Getting married on the property
I couldn’t resist. And as I listen to the great mans “Perfect Day” I can’t help but think of all of the quintessential Tuscan moments we have had at our Wine Resort this year. I’ve always known in my heart what an other worldly place we had found here in Italy. You arrive and your problems are left far behind. The light, the air, the mesmeric views and then there’s the wine and food for the soul. So it comes as no surprise to me that this year was filled with a lot of love. Guests in love, celebrating marriages shiny new and old, I saw them in every corner of the place. Sharing a couple of hours on a sofa in front of the fire with a soft blanket or gazing out over vineyards and sky accompanied with a glass of something special.
The weddings we celebrated on our hillside were like a crescendo of beauty. We get to know the couples so well and when they arrive for their three special days with us, even for us it is like poetry in motion. The Wine Resort opens its big chestnut Tuscan doors with every detail in place to create a magical experience for bride, groom, family and friends. So many say how easy it was to organise their marriage in Italy with us even though they came from so many countries across the world. As the team goes to work behind the scenes, I have watched wedding suppers for a a hundred guests come together effortlessly, even the stars twinkled for us overhead.
So, if romance is the act of doing the unexpected for someone you love, now’s the time to think of booking that escape you’ve been thinking of for so long. For many life is so full of work and struggle that the perfect days are few and far between. I know a place where you can find one every day, in any season.
